(1768-1835) The last Holy Roman Emperor, ruling from 1792 to 1806, when he dissolved the Empire after the disastrous defeat of the Third Coalition by Napoleon in the Battle of Austerlitz. Fine manuscript L.S. "Franciscus", 1p. legal folio, Vienna, Dec. 17, 1834, in Latin to Ferdinand II, King of Two Sicilicies. Francis conveys his condolences upon the untimely death of Infanta Maria Francisca of Portugal, adding: "...Moved in sincere grief over this mournful event, I offer ardent prayers that the surviving husband...may share the same eternal protection, and that the Divine Deity will mercifully assuage his grief...", with holograph sentiment penned in Latin above his signature. With original envelope bearing red-wax seal, very good condition.
