Description:

FRANCIS "GABBY" GABRESKI
(1919-2002) American fighter pilot and top Ace in Europe during World War two. He was assigned to Wheeler Field in Hawaii during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and assisted in rescuing several planes from destruction as they sat moored on the base runway. Fine lot of seven signed items including an original Series 1935-A Silver Certificate One Dollar bill, counter-stamped "HAWAII", with brown seal, boldly signed by Gabreski. Despite the date, these bills were the last dated currency to circulate in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor. With three aerial S.P.'s 8" x 10" b/w, reprinted photographs of the damage inflicted on American planes during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, all signed in full. Also, two patriotic prints (8" x 10") commemorating Pearl Harbor, both signed "Gabby Gabreski" and one 50th anniversary cachet cover signed "Francis G. Gabreski". Fine condition.
