Description:

FRANCIS G. QUIGLEY BATTLE REPORT
(1894 – 1918) Canadian RFC aviator and flying ace of the First World War, who was credited with 33 aerial victories. He was notable for scoring the majority of his victories against German fighter planes. Died of Spanish Flu as he returned to service in England. Partial war-date D.S. (unsigned), 1p. 8 x 3, [France, Mar. 9, 1918], his combat report on a 'double kill'. In part: '...our formation dived from 11,000 feet...to attack 12 Albatross Scouts....I overtook two which were flying close together and straggling...I fired a long burst into the front one from above his tail at close range. He turned and fell below me, apparently out of control....I put the second Albatross in my sights and fired three long bursts into him from about 15 yards range...he fell into a slow spin obviously out of control with petrol flowing out of his tank...' Signed at bottom by Capt. F. G. QUIGLEY. Very good.
