Description:

1492. HAL FOSTER (1892 - 1982) American cartoonist, creator of the "Prince Valiant" and "Tarzan" strips. Rare, unique, unpublished original signed drawing "Hal" in pencil, 1p., 4to. on his imprinted stationery, Evanston, Illinois, undated [ca. early 1950s]. From the collection of King Features PR executive Dick Hyman, who had asked Foster for a unique drawing for his comic art collection. The drawing depicts Hyman at left pleading with vacation-bound Foster walking out the door in hunting clothes with shotgun in hand, geese above his head, to come back to his easel as a "Dead Line" specter looms in the background. Below the drawing, Foster has inscribed: "Dick — will this explain any delay in full filling your request for a special drawing? Hal". Light age-toning, with tiny binding holes in left margin, otherwise in very good condition. $300 - 400
