507. GERALD R. FORD (1913 - 2006) 38th President of the United States who assumed office upon the resignation of Richard Nixon, who Ford later pardoned for any involvement in the Watergate scandal. Fine content A.L.S. "Jerry Ford", referring to his pardon of Richard Nixon, 1p, 8vo., on personal letterhead bearing the Presidential seal, Nov. 28 [n.y.], addressed to his former press secretary Ron Nessen. In full: "I am deeply grateful for the very thoughtful and generous op-ed piece in the Washington Post which has also appeared nationally in a number of papers including The Houston Chronicle. Thanks so much. As you well know 1974 was a very tragic period in American history. I was fortunate to have a fine White House staff including you as my Press Secretary. We worked together and made many correct and courageous decisions. I thank you for your many kindnesses and support. I treasure your friendship...". Ronald Harold Nessen (b. May 25, 1934) was a press secretary for President Gerald Ford from 1974 to 1977. He replaced Jerald terHorst, who resigned in the wake of President Ford's pardon of former president Nixon.
