Description:

FLAG RELIC FROM THE 61ST PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEERS
An interesting relic from the Army of the Potomac, a flag remnant from one of the regimental flags used by the 61st Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War. It measures 2 1/2" x 2" and is composed of pieces of fabric in tan, blue and red. While the 61st did not win individual acclaim during the war, it participated in the vast majority of battles fought by the Army of the Potomac, including Fredericksburg, Antietam, Marye's Heights, Spotsylvania, Gettysburg and Appomattox. The 61st lost more officers in combat than any other Federal regiment, but never lost a battle flag. The relic was part of one unidentified battle flag, and attached provenance dates this flag back to a GAR Hall in Philadelphia where many of the items from the 61st. Pa. Vols. were displayed. Handsome matted and ready to frame.
