FITZ JOHN PORTER
(1822 - 1901) Union major general who fought at Second Bull Run and Antietam. He was later accused by Pope of "disobedience and disloyalty" and was relieved from command. Rare signed imprint: "A Reply to the Review of Judge Advocate General Holt, of the Proceedings, Findings and Sentence, of the General Court Martial, in the Case of Major General Fitz John Porter and a Vindication of That Office", by Reverdy Johnson (Baltimore: John Murphy & Co.), 1863. 88pp. 8vo., paper covers, string binding. Inscribed on the cover: "Senator [James A.] Bayard [Delaware] Compliments of Fitz John Porter". Very good.
