FIRST EMPIRE PORTRAIT OF NAPOLEON BONAPARTE
Most attractive contemporrary oil on canvas portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, from the school of Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825), 6 3/8 x 8 5/8 in. overall. This is a well-detailed chest, up portrait of the future emperor, shown in his uniform as 'Colonel des Grenadiers de las Garde', with awards he possessed at the time. The oil is affixed to to a the original period stretcher with contemporary period flathead nails, all of which remain secure. The canvas itself shows no evident repairs, althoug the reverse displays some browning. The work is unsigned. There is a very slight indent with the tiniest of pinholes (noticeable only when backlit), just to the left of Napoleon's head, mentioned only for accuracy. This beautiful period piece 10 x 12 1/4 in. gilt frame from approximately the same period, in impeccable condition. From the personal collection of one of the world's largest private collections devoted to the French Revolution and Napoleon I, as well as the First and Second World Wars.

Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
