FEODOR VON BOCK
(1880 - 1945) German field marshal best known for commanding Operation Typhoon, the ultimately failed attempt to capture Moscow during the winter of 1941. Five months later, in July 1942, Hitler blamed him for the failure of "Operation Braunschweig", the second part of the German offensive in Russia, and retired him definitively. Fine content war-date T.L.S., 1p. 4to., to either Erich Raeder or Karl Donitz, both having been appointed "Grossadmiral". In part: "...My very dear Grossadmiral! On your appointment to the highest German naval rank I say to you my special and sincere congratulations and also offer the expression that this appointment was a special joy for us...". Heavily chipped at top, less so at margins, good overall.
