Description:

FELDHERRNHALLE DIVISION DOCUMENT AND MEDAL GROUPING
A rare and highly desirable grouping of medals and documents issued to Sturmfuhrer Hans Brockmann, a Feldherrnhalle honor guard and later a decorated member of the Panzer-Grenadier Division Feldherrnhalle, a semi-armored formation of the German Army. Included in this impressive lot is: Brockmann's 'Ehrentafel', or certificate of honor recognizing that S.A. Sturmfuhrer Brockmann had 'voluntarily served his Fuhrer Adolf Hitler and his people from 28 June 1937 to 28 June 1938' in the 'Watchstandard Feldherrnhalle', issued in Berlin on June 28, 1938 and apparently signed by ERICH REIMANN, S.A. Gruppenfuhrer and commander of the guard at the Feldherrnhalle; Brockman's Nazi Party Personal-Ausweis, Sep. 22, 1932, picturing the S.A. man and showing very consistent payment of dues to the party; his S.A. Ausweis Nr. 45, Gruppe Neidersachsen, Brigade 59, Standarte 79, 4pp. 12mo., his photo showing him in uniform, issued Sep. 1, 1938, with dues stamps; his S.A. Sports Badge award certificate, 1937; an official copy of his award of the War Merit Cross (with Swords), 2nd Class, 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, Jan. 30, 1944, sold with the medal he was awarded; an award document for the Panzer Assault Badge in Bronze, 1p. 8vo., Apr. 8, 1944, signed signed by an unknown Oberst in his division, with the aforementioned badge with hallmark by Frank & Reif, Stuttgart; a 1p. 12mo. Feb. 21, 1945 signed document indicating that as Brockmann is a member of a 'special troop part of the army for the association Feldherrnhalle', he may not be requested by or assigned to any other unit; and five candid photographs apparently showing Brockmann and/or his fellow S.A. comrades, mostly in casual poses. Overall very good to fine condition. The Panzer-Grenadier-Division Feldherrnhalle took up defensive positions as part of the 3rd Panzer Army in the area of Vitebsk in January, 1944. In February it was sent to the North to fight in the Battle of Narva. In May 1944, it returned to Army Group Centre and fought against the Soviet Mogilev Offensive in June. The division was destroyed during the Soviet Minsk Offensive in July 1944, as part of Operation Bagration. The division was recreated on 1 September 1944 and renamed Panzer-Division Feldherrnhalle and again destroyed during the Battle of Budapest in February 1945. The division was recreated again as Panzer-Division Feldherrnhalle 1. The remnants of the division surrendered to the Soviets in May 1945 at Deutsch-Brod.
