A lot of two items by famed, or infamous, in one case, explorers. Includes: JEAN PICCARD, pencil signature on a small sheet, and DAVID IRWIN, who, in 1935, conquered the Arctic in a 2,000 mile journey via dog sled. T.L.S. on his personal letterhead imprinted with the phrase "The Only Man on Record to Cross the Top of the World Alone", 1p. 4to., Grand Rapids, July 16, 1936, a year after his rescue from the harrowing trip, in part: "...I figure on being at your Camp the evening of July 25...". With the original envelope, and a period reproduction of the New York Times article detailing Irwin's ordeal which included, among other things, eating his own sled dog! Along with an original, limited edition volume by Richard E. Byrd (not signed), a special printing of Into the Home of the Blizzard (New York: New York Times Co., 1928), numbered 1416. With original box, in fine condition. Three pieces.
