Description:

A good content typed letter written by a German woman named Martha Gisel living in Cuba expressing feelings about post war Germany, 2pp. 4to., Jovellanos, October 15, 1921, addressed to 'My Dear Anna and Fritz.' In part: '...My dear Fritz, I don't know if I should get involved in a political conversation...it is always directly harmful to eat stored anger...you say it looks bad in our Fatherland, but that's not the Etente's fault [Britain, France, Russia]. No my dear, we're hitting each other on our own. Can anyone be surprised that a heap of carrion can eat as much of a corpse as possible? Because we are a corpse, and a very dead one. And you mean, in a few years, that things will be better for us? Can be, but also can not be, and the latter is probably more likely...I am afraid that the point in time when what could be saved has long been missed...We are now a nation (again a bunch of small states each one jealously taking care of his own self-interests) which has to buy iron from Poland...we now also lack Posen and West Prussia...The wonderful institution of the famous Reichswehr...now the strongest man probably cannot contend...with Lichtenstein, Monaco, or San Marino...' Lightly toned, with scattered ink stains. Sold with three other typed documents in German sent from Brazil to recipients in Germany.
