Description:

Lot of four important documents pertaining to the case of one Salo Weber of Berlin who has been ordered evicted by the German authorities. The first document, 1p. oblong 8vo., Sep. 4, 1939, is the text of a letter sent to presumed landlord Wilhelm Henze by a state inspector stating: "...The accommodation of the Jewish couple Weber in the apartment of Jew Schafer...is approved..." A text of a second letter from Henze by the same state inspector, Sep. 16, 1939, reads in part: "...I hereby certify you in accordance...with the Law on Tenancy Relationships with Jews...I waive the right to use the tenant Weber to accommodate Jews..." A third letter is a T.L.S., 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, Oct. 27, 1939, sent to Weber on the letterhead of the "Jewish Community", asking him to come to their offices after hearing of the "problems in your apartment." It is clear that Weber was indeed evicted: a fourth document is a mimeographed list of 43 "Jewish Houses" to which Weber and his wife might be able to apply for an apartment. There is one holograph addition, but six of the addresses have been excised. On the verso of this document, it appears that the desperate Weber listed the addresses and names of other Jews to whom he hoped to appeal. Weber himself was not a Jew, although his wife Charlotte was. She would survive the war - her husband's fate is unknown. Very good.
