EVA BRAUN'S SILVER AND SUEDE PURSE
An absolutely stunning suede purse belonging to Eva Braun and once owned by Anni Winter, Hitler's one-time housekeeper at No. 16 Prinzregentenplatz in Munich. Winter had surreptitiously acquired a number of Hitler and Braun items in addition to those officially granted her by the German government after the war. She peddled those, along with more pedestrian items, at a small antique store in Munich to the more discerning collectors of historical items but kept most of them. This extravagant bag is crafted from soft olive-green moleskin housed in a silver "cage" comprised of Braun's linked initials and 86 tiny swastikas with Braun's classic "EB" monogram is at the center on the front of the purse. The purse is about 7 1/2" and 9" tall, with a linked ball chain for carrying. It closes with a secure hinged clasp bearing Celtic motifs of dragons and serpents. The dragons are very much like the serpent in Wagner's "Ring Der Niebelungen" opera and mark the Kampfzeit period. Hallmarked within clasp: [NBH] for maker, [device of a crown] and 900S for silver purity. In very good condition and certainly unique. A rare and important relic.
