EUROPEAN AUTOGRAPH HISTORY BOOKS
Fine lot of two limited edition books printed in France, each small folio, 22pp., with faux leather covers, one bearing the coat of arms of the United Kingdom, the other of France, printed by Editions, M.D., 22. Rue de l'Arcade, Paris, c. 1880, titled: "Some Stirring Relics of English History" and "Quelques Reliques Emouvantes Du Passe". Each volume contains individually reprinted facsimiles of some of the most historically important letters and documents relevant to European history. Each facsimile letter has been painstakingly mounted opposite a biographical description along with a complete transcription (translation). Examples include: Wellington informing a French General of the victory of Waterloo, Nelson's unfinished letter, Cromwell's report on the battle of Naseby, signature of Guy Fawkes under torture, Josephine's letter of abdication, Lafayette demanding a pardon for Louis XVI and more! Other than a few minor chips on the faux leather covers, both volumes are in very good condition.
