EUGENE O'NEILL
(1888 - 1953) American author who rose from being a derelict seaman to write The Iceman Cometh and Emperor Jones and to win a Pulitzer Prize. Rare and fine association I.S.P. 8" x 10" sepia by Pinchot, New York, bust photograph of the playwright, boldly signed and inscribed "To Norman Winston in all friendship - Eugene O'Neill". Additionally signed by the photographer at the lower left, BEN PINCHOT(1890 - 1986): "Pinchot, N.Y." Norman Winston was a wealthy shoe manufacturer who had contributed funds to the Provincetown Playhouse with which O'Neill had become involved with in 1916. Many of his early plays were performed by this company both in Provincetown and at their New York theater on MacDougal Street. Small chip and tear at bottom margin can be easily matted out, minor tear at upper right corner, extremely light soiling at margins, else very good to fine condition.
