ERWIN ROMMEL BRASS AND OTHER TINNIE COLLECTION (11)
A fabulous collection of 11 tinnies of the highest quality, including those of brass composition, including 1933 Tag der Fahnenweihe, Munster Beamtentag, Gau Westfafallen, 1933 October Messe, Ja 12.11.1933 pin, 1934 Saar election pin, Munster Sonnenwend Feier der NSADP, 1933, Deutsches Jugensfest 1936, 1938 Ostpreussen pin, etc., all in near mint condition and all taken from the home of Field Marshal ERWIN ROMMEL by an American G.I. who was billeted there in June, 1945. The pins are set on a red felt backing with paper labels: 'THE ROMMEL COLLECTION REGALIA OF THE THIRD REICH', the entirety set into a simple folding wood frame. These relics were obtained by PFC Joseph H. Rose of HQ Company, 1st Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Div. who served as a translator. In eight note cards (three copies) included, typed by Rose approx. thirty years ago and used by him in his public speeches, he describes some of the pins present in this lot. Other such groupings, and other items taken from Rommel's home may be found elsewhere in this sale. Also included in the lot is a copy of a photograph of Rose seated outdoors at Rommel's home with a jeep in the background, various newspaper articles including a ca. 1990 piece in which Rose describes being billeted at Rommel's empty home for over a month and later befriending Rommel's widow, a June 10, 1989 article with similar content, a copy of Rose's Enlisted Record and Report of Separation; a copy of a 1988 Civil War Round Table announcement of a speech by Rose on his occupation of Rommel's home, and an original letter of provenance from Rose's niece.
