ERWIN J. ROMMEL
(1891 - 1944) German field marshal whose Afrika Corps threw back repeated British and American assaults in North Africa, later he defended Normandy and ultimately was forced to commit suicide due to his implication in the Hitler bomb plot. Lot of two signed items, includes: a D.S. commander in chief on Panzerarmee Afrika letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d. but 1942], a form letter sent to his supporters. In part: "...I receive much mail from all parts of Germany...I am delighted by these greetings from the homeland...I cannot respond to each individual letter...The local war reporters for the German troops reported so many experiences in word and picture...the same for the weekly news reels who report a point on picture of the extraordinary service of the troops in North Africa...here in the desert, the German is brave at the side of his Italian comrade, fighting for a common victory...German troops will persevere and contribute to the final victory of the Axis...". Signed in indelible blue pencil. Also included is an S.P. 5" x 3 1/2" b/w, a Hoffmann photo of Rommel in uniform, the signature traced-over by the recipient in an effort to darken it. Both are double-matted together and set into a wood frame.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
