Description:

(ERNST ROHM AND THE S.A.)
Two very rare imprints in English of speeches given by S.A. leader ERNST ROHM. Includes: "Why S.A.? German Minister Ernst Rohm Chief of Staff Addressing the Diplomatic Corps in Berlin on December 7, 1933", 14pp. 8vo., printed by Liebheit & Thiesen, Berlin [1933]. An incredible speech set forth with some text italicized and set in bold face to accent Rohm's thoughts. In very small part: "...To the soldier, pacifism is cowardice...Germany is the cradle...of the fate of the world...If the soldier is to fight and die for a good or bad policy, it must be for him to decide what the policy is to be...the new Germany is still ready to disarm down to the last machine-gun...the task set the Storm Troops is to form the new German state in mind and will on the basis of National-Socialist ideas...National Socialism has itself become the State and brooks no movements of any kind beside itself...many centuries passed before Christianity won the day...the State is the nation, and the nation is the State...". Also: "The National Socialist Revolution and the S.A.", the text of a similar speech given by Rohm before the diplomatic corps and the foreign press in Berlin on Apr. 18, 1934, less than three months before his murder. The 24pp. 8vo. speech was printed by M. Muller & Sohn, Berlin. In his speech, Rohm compares Hitler to Mussolini, Ataturk, Horthy and Mussolini, continues his attacks on Bolshevism, justifies the "use of its fists" by the S.A. to bring the NSDAP to power, and rails against those advocating "peace and order" versus revolution. Both are fascinating views into the manner in which Rohm sought to present the brown shirts to its critics around the world. Fine condition.
