Large grouping of 15 documents, dated from 1908 to 1944, belonging to Ernst Jaeger, a German soldier who saw service in both World Wars and was one of 100,000 soldiers allowed by the Treaty of Versailles to remain in service during the inter-war years. The grouping includes: a photograph of Jaeger, 5 x 7 in. b/w, in his WWII uniform, mounted, minor stain toward the bottom of the mount; three imperial German documents, including a promotion document, each 1p. legal folio; promotion document to Hauptmann, 1p. legal folio, Berlin, Sept. 1, 1928, signed by Reich Minister of Defense WILHELM GROENER (1867-1939); promotion document to Major, 1p. legal folio, Berlin, Jan. 1, 1934, signed by Reich President PAUL VON HINDENBURG (1847-1934) and cosigned by Minister of War WERNER VON BLOMBERG (1878-1946); award certificate for the World War I Honor Cross for Front Fighters, 1p. oblong 8vo., Berlin, Feb. 1, 1935, slight folds to the top-left corner; four copies of award certificates for the 4-year, 12-year, 18-year, and 25-year Wehrmacht Long Service medals, each 1p. 4to., Berlin, Oct. 2, 1936; certificate for the Austrian War Remembrance Medal with Swords, 1p. 8vo., Vienna, Jan. 7, 1937; promotion document to Oberst, 4pp. large folio, Fuhrer Headquarters, Oct. 20, 1940, signed by Commander-in-Chief of the Army WALTHER VON BRAUCHITSCH (1881-1948) with facsimile Hitler signature; award certificate for the War Merit Cross, Second Class, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, Dec. 24, 1940, signed by Commander of the Replacement Army FRIEDRICH FROMM (1888-1945), later put to death for his role in the July 20 plot after ordering the executions of fellow conspirators to hide his involvement; award certificate for the Wound Badge in Black, 1p. 8vo., Hannover, Jan. 27, 1944; and a certificate for the War Merit Cross, First Class with Swords, 1p. 8vo., Berlin, Apr. 20, 1944, signed by Chief of the Waffenamt EMIL LEEB (1881-1969), General der Artillerie and younger brother of Field Marshal Wilhelm Ritter von Leeb. Except where noted, very good to fine condition. Jaegar's promotion document to Lieutenant Colonel, signed by Adolf Hitler and Minister of Defense Werner von Bromberg, is also being sold in a separate lot.
