Description:

ERICH VON DEM BACH-ZELEWSKI (1899-1972) SS officer and Heinrich Himmler's chief of anti-partisan warfare, reached the rank of SS-Obergruppenführer. Bach-Zalewski took command of all German troops fighting against the Warsaw Uprising, resulting in the killing of over 200,000 civilians. Rare and very interesting partly-printed D.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], March 9, 1945, an award certificate granting the "Bandenkampfabzeichen" ("Anti-Partisan Badge") in Silver to "SS-Oberscharfuhrer" Raimund Augsberg of the "SS-Jagdverband Mitte". Bach-Zelewski signs at the conclusion in black ink as "SS-Obergruppenfuhrer" and General of the Waffen-SS. Rather lightly printed, else very good. The "SS-Jagdverband Mitte" was a commando outfit of the SS originally organized as "SS-Sonder Lehrgang Oranienburg" under the command of Otto Skorzeny. It was later reorganized as "SS-Jäger-Bataillon 502", still under Skorzeny's command, with men from the unit participating in the Gran Sasso Raid, the rescue of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from captivity following his ouster at the hands of Italy's king. It was finally reorganized as "SS-Jagdverband Mitte" in September of 1944.
