Description:

ERICH VON DEM BACH-ZELEWSKI AWARDS AN ANTI-PARTISAN BADGE ...TO A SIXTIES GERMAN POLITICIAN AND FELLOW WAR CRIMINAL!
A fascinating and, by itself rare, grouping of documents exposing the hideous past of a prominent German politician of the Sixties, Egon Erzum (1904– 1974). Erzum was a founder of the GB/BHE, an advocacy group for Germans who fled or were expelled in and after World War II, many of whom were war criminals. Following the demise of that party, he joined the conservative Christian Social Union and was elected Mayor of Leutershausen from 1962 to 1965. This grouping includes several damning war-time documents issued to Polizei-member Erzum, including an Anti-Partisan Badge award document signed by ERICH VON DEM BACH-ZELEWSKI (1899-1972), an SS-Obergruppenführer who directed anti-partisan warfare in Russia and led the suppression of the Warsaw uprising. Bach-Zelewski managed to take control of the city while committing the cruelest atrocities in the process, notably the Wola massacre. Included is: Erzum''s police soldbuch picturing him in uniform, issued July 17, 1944 by an officer of "Polizei Rgt. 17" which was officially an SS police regiment. The SS-Polizei Regiment 17 was transferred to Poland in 1943 and was used for anti-partisan operations before taking part in combating the Warsaw uprising. Soldiers from this unit were involved in the killing of at least 1,000 Jews in the Lubin area in 1944. On May 21, 1945 Erzum transferred to Police Regt. 25 which also participated in massacres of Jews in the Lublin area. Also present is Erzum''s Polizei-Dienstpass which shows Erzum in Poland as early as March, 1942, and in the area of Lvov as well - site of many massacres. The von dem Bach-Zelewski signed document is 1p. 8vo., issued at "Headquarters", Warsaw, Sep. 26, 1944 and awards staff member, Major Egon Erzum with the "Anti-Partisan Badge in Silver". This is only days before the Warsaw Uprising was finally put down, and Erzum was no doubt being recognized for his "bravery" in that action. Also included is an Aug. 22, 1944 award for a Wound Badge in Black, an official pass, and numerous newspaper clippings concerning Erzum and his politics.
