Description:

ENOLA GAY FLOWN SURVIVAL KIT RELICS
Excessively rare Enola Gay FLOWN emergency survival kit line and fishing hook, carried aboard the historic August 6, 1945 atomic bombing mission over Hiroshima. The relics include a 2.75 x 2.5 in. imprinted tag with instructions, a section of 54-pound test line, and a 2.25 in. long hook. These relics were part of the emergency survival kit carried by GEORGE R. CARON (1919-1995), the tail gunner aboard the Enola Gay, as a component of the U.S. Army Air Forces Type C-1 Survival Vest issued to him. Caron was the aircraft's sole gunner and located far from the rest of the crew in a tiny segregated compartment in the aft of the cabin. The pieces are handsomely matted below a photograph of the atomic bomb exploding over Hiroshima, which has been boldly signed by Caron as well. Accompanied by a provenance packet which includes a copy of a notarized letter written and signed by Caron authenticating the unique relic. Displayed in a clam shell matte which measures 10.5 x 13.25 in. These items were removed from the larger, complete survival kit sold by us dozens of years ago, and likely remain the only Enola Gay flown items extant. It is worth noting that in 2022, Caron's Army Air Force cloth survival chart, also carried aboard the Enola Gay, sold at Heritage Auctions for $68,750.
