ELIZABETH (1709 - 1762) Czarina of Russia and daughter of Peter the Great, she overthrew her despised cousin Anna, founded the University of Moscow and the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, and reigned avoiding political entanglements as much as possible. Manuscript D.S. in Cyrillic as Tsesareva, 1p., 4to, [St. Petersburg], 1737, not translated. Written at a time when the Dulgorukov boyar family, who hated Elizabeth's father Peter the Great, ruled Russia and practically kept Elizabeth banished from royal life at the court. Elizabeth would not ascend to the throne as Empress until she led a coup in 1741, beginning a reign in which not a single person in Russia was executed (a rare accomplishment). Slight foxing, moderate middle fold, else fine and surely worthy of further research.
