Description:

ELIAS BOUDINOT
(1740 - 1821) Revolutionary War officer and President of the Continental Congress signing the Treaty of Paris in that capacity. Later director of the U.S. Mint. Good content A.L.S. with holograph address leaf, 2pp. 4to., Philadelphia, Feb. 2, 1796 to 'Abraham Duryee' in New York, possibly the wine merchant of the same name. In part: '...When I was last at Trenton, I called on the Chancellor, who informed that that he had not yet made his Decree, but when he did, he would direct the Register to give me a Copy of it by the Post...Genl. Frelinghuysen told me that on his way down, the Chancellor had told him that he had determined on the Decree, and that it was in favor of the Clients, but that it was not yet registered...I yet can hardly think it possible. My Situation of Confinement renders it impracticable for me to attend your Business at the next Session of the Assembly...It would be too expensive for you...I think you had better write to the Attorney General...I will aid him with a State of the Case - He can attend with the Governor & see what he has done...' On the opposite leaf, Duryee forwards Boudinot's letter from New York on Feb. 23 setting forth his complaint about the funds due to him. Folds, else near fine.
