Description:

(1740 - 1821) Revolutionary War officer and President of the Continental Congress signing the Treaty of Paris in that capacity. Later director of the U.S. Mint. Rare folded postal leaf franked by Boudinot 'Elias Boudinot' as President of the Confederation Congress, headed: 'In public Service' and addressed to: 'Nicholas Van Dyke Esqr. President of the Delaware State' The cover bears two interesting dockets in two period hands. One side reads: 'Rec'd 28th of Febr. 4 o'Clock P.M.' and '24 Febr. 1783'. On the opposite margin the contents of the leaf (not present) are summarized: 'President of Congress's Propossing [sic] a representation from this State in Congress - with an Act respecting the Same' Two postal marks, a few stains, else very good. In the letter enclosed within this cover, Boudinot was calling Delaware's delegates to the Second Continental Congress, which would formally accept the Treaty of Paris signed on September 3, 1783, thus ending the American Revolution.
