(Election Of Abraham Lincoln) Excellent newspaper account of the first election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency as reported on the front page of The New York herald, Nov. 8, 1860, 8pp. Almost the entire front page is devoted to the story, with the headlines: The Result... The Election Of Lincoln... A Republican Administration And AN Opposition Congress. Much detail including the electoral vote tallies, votes cast in each state, House Representatives elected, and man in the street commentary. Editorial comment also concerns the election, with mention also made of South Carolinas secession question . Interestingly, a referendum to allow Negroe Suffrage was defeated 37 to 1! Fine condition.
