Description:

EDWARD VIII
(1894-1972) King of England whose abdication of the throne in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson rocked Great Britain and led to his spending the balance of his life in self-imposed exile. Fine partly-printed D.S. "Edward P" on second page as Prince of Wales, 2pp. folio, Saint James's London, Jan. 1, 1918, document in the name of George V, bearing his rubber stamped signature at the top of the first page appointing "Our trusty and well beloved Dudley Owen Lumley Esquire Captain in Our Army" to be a member of the Order. Handsome embossed seal at head of document. It was not uncommon for Edward's father, George V, who reigned from 1910 to 1936, to resort to using rubberstamped signatures on documents during this time. In very good condition.
