In the Battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864, Warren died after receiving seven bullet wounds. Very rare war-date A.L.S. with integral address leaf, 1p. 4to., 'Paris, 16 Miles from Winchester', July 19 [1861], to his wife Jennie. In part: '...the entire army under the command of Genl Johnston...left Winchester to reinforce our Army at the [Manassas] Junction. We marched all night last night and I understand are to go on until we take Washington & conquer a peace...Beauregard has been so far victorious...' Folds, else fine condition. Two days after the writing of this letter, Union and Confederate forces (led by Beauregard) would clash at First Bull Run. Warren would join in the fight, his 10th Virginia Regiment serving in the brigade of Brig. Gen. Edmund Kirby Smith.
