EDWARD HAND
(1744 –1802) General officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War who commanded troops in some of the key battles of the war, including Long Island and Trenton. As Adjutant General of the Continental Army, he assisted Washington in the siege of Yorktown. A.L.S., 1p. legal folio, Lancaster, Jan. 13, 1793 to future Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Jasper Yeats. Hand mentions that his sons are seeking copies of a natural history text, and relates that he has left his watch in Philadelphia for repair. He asks that if Yeats has the opportunity, would he visit the watchmaker and pick it up for him, or else give it to a mutual friend. He concludes: "...The Roads have been so bad that I have not yet Rode your Horse". With integral holograph address leaf, hand-carried by a Col. Mentyes [?]. Very lightly toned near bottom, else very good.
