Description:

EDWARD GEIN
(1906 - 1984) American murderer and grave robber. His crimes, which he committed in Plainfield, Wisconsin, garnered widespread notoriety after authorities discovered Gein had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. Gein was the inspiration for "Buffalo Bill" in the film "The Silence of the Lambs". One of the oddest cards and relics to ever come to market, a very rare 8vo. greeting card, with T.L.S. typed therein, [n.p., ca. 1983], printed: "Congratulations! Best wishes, too...And happiness your whole life through!" to which Gein adds: "I wasn't expecting a visit with the dental office but when the call came it saved me the trouble. This tooth has been troubling me for some time. Now it can trouble me no longer. Sincerely, Ed Gein". Boldy signed in black ink, with transmittal envelope and...the offending molar. An extensive search of auction records worldwide fails to turn up a sale of a single Gein autographs.
