Description:

EDMOND-CHARLES GENET
(1763 - 1834) also known as Citizen Genêt, was a French ambassador to the United States during the French Revolution. His outfitting of privateers for the cause of the French Revolution violated American neutrality and nearly involved America in another "foreign entanglement". A.L.S. 1p. 4to., New York, Nov. 6, 1813 to "General Van Schayck Cashier of the Bank of Albany". Genet asks that he be sent notice "by the next steam boat" of any balance remaining in his favor at the bank. He adds: "...We are in daily expectation of important news from Europe and hope that our Commissioners will not return from Russia without having done something in favour of peace...". Some light stains here and there, else very good.
