Description:

EARLY RIBALD POETRY
Printed ribald poem titled "The Fair Maid's Song, when all alone", 6" square, no printer noted. In it, a pretty maid laments the lack of a man in her life in a suggestive manner, noting that she has "...a thing belongs to me, would please a young man handsomely...". The lyrics continue in this vein: "...If he be a miller that is kind, all in my mill I'll let him grind...If he be a sawyer by his trade, I have his saw-pit ready made...If he be a tailor neat and trim...I'll thread his needle through the skin...", and much more fairly transparent imagery. The title of the song for the lyrics is, predictably, "White Cockade"! Very good.
