EARLY MAYORS OF PHILADELPHIA
Exceedingly rare and important early Pennsylvania manuscript D.S., 1p. 29" x 16 1/4", Philadelphia, Dec. 4, 1703, an indenture concerning a tract of 500 acres of land obtained by brewer John Budd of Philadelphia, signed at bottom by Philadelphia mayors JAMES LOGAN (1674-1751), who also served as chief justice and governor, THOMAS STORY (1670-1742), GRIFFITH OWEN (d. 1717) and EDWARD SHIPPEN (1639-1712). Some wear and toning at folds, else very good. Sold with a 1703 document signed by Budd who sells 200 acres of the land to one Tobias Leath. Two pieces.
