Description:

EARLY ARIZONA DOCUMENTS
A nice lot of four documents pertaining to Arizona's history while it was an American territory. The first is written by John Philo Hoyt, fine association A.L.S. as Governor of the Arizona Territory on official letterhead, 1p., 4to., Prescott, June 3, 1878, to the L.M. Jacobs and Company. In part: "...I would say that the warrant for [illeg.] has been issued and delivered to Morris Goldwater as directed, so that your interests will doubtlessly be fully protected..." Boldly signed, "John P. Hoyt". Hoyt penned this letter only a week before he found himself replaced as Governor by John C. Fremont. Hoyt wrote his letter to the Jacobs Brothers, who would go on to open Arizona's first banks. Hoyt also makes a reference to Morris Goldwater, who was elected Mayor of Prescott in 1878 and was the uncle of famed Arizona senator Barry Goldwater. Fine. Lot additionally includes two telegraph notes to L.M. Jacobs and Co regarding inventory orders, and a note from ALFRED EYIMAR" to Heymann Solomon, written from Camp Thomas. Solomon took over management of the Agency Pima County Bank, and in early 1882 found himself elected city treasurer of Tombstone. An interesting lot worthy of further discussion.
