Description:

EARLY ALLGEMEINE-SS SIGNALS DRESS TUNIC
Rare, early Allgemeine-SS Signals heavy black wool tunic, in generally excellent condition. The correct brown thread on the right collar tab and '6' cuff title attributes the tunic to a signals unit. The single epaulet, collar piping, and piping of the tabs are all constructed of black wool and silver bullion. A Rottenfuhrer's collar tab with silver bullion stripes is fitted to the left collar, the right tab bears an embroidered bolt and '6'; and both tabs were professionally hand-sewn to the garment. Interestingly, the collar was also hand-tailored after the tabs were attached, the edge of the collar's cloth hemmed over the stitching for the tabs. A three-piece period SS armband is sewn to the left sleeve. Showing wear to the marginal black ribbons, and toning to the white field behind the swastika, armband could easily be replaced if an upgrade is deemed necessary. The front of the tunic bears four original pebbled buttons (one temporarily reattached), as do each of the four scalloped pockets. The single vent in the rear of the tunic bears a pair of similar buttons, but so constructed as to support a belt. Two pebbled belt hooks are also present. Within, the fully-lined tunic is completely intact, showing only a skillful repair to a burst seam at the top of the vent. Overall, this tunic is in very good to excellent condition, exhibiting no discernible mothing and a fine item for display.
