E. M. FORSTER
(1879 - 1970) English fiction writer, essayist and librettist. Many of his novels examine class difference and hypocrisy, including 'A Room with a View' (1908), 'Howards End' (1910) and 'A Passage to India' (1924). A.L.S. 'E. M. Forster', 2pp. 8vo., London, Apr. 21, 1929 to a 'Monsieur Seurat'. In part: '...My friend and translator, Monsieur Charles Mauron, is coming to England...[would] a lecture from him at the Institut...be acceptable. The subjects he offers are Voltaire, Fontenelle and Mallarme...Mauron lives away from literary circles, and his name may not be known to you. But I can speak with the greatest enthusiasm of his intelligence and sensitiveness...' Some soiling along folds, else very good. Charles Mauron (1899-1966) was a French translator of contemporary English authors, including E. M. Forster and Virginia Woolf, and a literary critic who made use of psychoanalytic literary criticism.
