(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT CONGRATULATES THE TROOPS AFTER SUCCESSES OF TUNISIA Historic T.L.S. as the Allied Commander-in-Chief, 1p. 4to., May 10, 1943, a memorandum forwarding President Franklin D. Roosevelt's hearty congratulations after the Tunisian campaign to British General RICHARD GALE. Roosevelt's message, filled with great content, reads in full: 'My warm personal congratulations to you on the great success of the recent operations in North Africa. The power and coordination with which the Allied Forces are crushing our enemies in Tunisia is a tribute to your leadership, the unprecedented degree of Allied cooperation makes a pattern for the ultimate defeat of the Axis. Convey to General Alexander my appreciation of the splendid manner in which he directed the groups of Armies of three nations in a series of devastating blows against the enemy; my congratulations to Air Marshal Tedder on his overwhelming air victory; to Admiral Cunningham on the destruction of the Axis shipping by his naval craft; to General Montgomery on the culmination of his odyssey and to General Anderson for his perfect team play.' Eisenhower signs the conclusion in black ink. Two paper clip stains at upper-left, light spots of foxing, lightly creased at bottom, still very good condition and entirely presentable.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
