Description:

(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II, and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Fine A.L.S. 'Ike', 2pp. 4to., [n.p.], dated Oct. 4, [n.y.], to his wife Mamie about their son John. In part: '...I think John [Eisenhower] is rather glad to come home for a visit but disappointed to be taken away from work that he finds interesting. It seems difficult to get him into a niche...But he is young and can take it. He was in my office a while this morning because he wanted my 'professional' advice on some work he is doing. When he found that my ideas agreed with his I think my stock went up a bit. I bought him some new clothes for his visit home....he really looked fine. Cliff Lee reported back here and says you are looking well and having lots of fun.... Watch your health, don’t catch a cold with winter weather coming on.' Very fine condition. John Eisenhower, their son, found his World War II military career thwarted by fears for his safety and concern from the top brass that his death or capture would be a distraction to his father, the Supreme Allied Commander. During World War II, he was assigned to intelligence and administrative duties. Cliff Lee was Eisenhower’s chief of staff.
