Description:

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. War-dated T.L.S. as Allied Supreme Commander on official letterhead, 1p., 8vo., Versailles, November 6, 1944, to a Mrs. George Weig, In part: "... My secretary tells me that you have written requesting my autograph. Because you are doing your part towards furthering the war effort on the home front I shall be glad to give it to you. Here it is..." . Boldly signed "Dwight D Eisenhower" in black ink. An interesting example of Eisenhower's kind personality, as he took the time to write shortly after the main thrusts of Operations Overlord and Dragoon. With the original envelope with official Supreme Headquarters letterhead and a wartime free frank over the stamp cancel [from APO 757]. Minor folds, else fine.
