Description:

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Nice content T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Newport, Sep. 25, 1957 to Maj. Gen. R. W. Stephens, Army Chief of Military History. Ike thanks the historian for sending a volume on the Army in World War II: "...needless to say, the entire history has the greatest of interest for me. I suspect also that the volumes will be important in later years to my grandson, who already is, or thinks he is, a 'student' of that conflict...". One fold, else very good. Ike's grandson, David Eisenhower, was nine years old at the time and would indeed become a student of history, receiving his B.A. in history cum laude from Amherst College in 1970. Eisenhower was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in history in 1987 for his work Eisenhower: At War 1943-1945.
