DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Nice association war-date T.L.S. on his Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force letterhead, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Mar. 22, 1944, to American journalist and author Poultney Bigelow. In part: "...Thank you for your letter and good wishes. It was thought ful of you to write...". Bigelow ( 1855-1954) was the London correspondent to several American publications, and a serious correspondent for many important individuals of his day, including Samuel Clemens, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Frederic Remington, and many others. Just two days before this letter, Hitler had occupied Hungary, and three days later 76 Allied pilots escape from the famed prison camp Stalag II. Very good condition, with original envelope.
