Dwight D. Eisenhower Archive A fine archive of eight T.L.S.'s, 8pp. 1945-52, one by his secretary Kay Summersby, one secretarial. All of the letters were written to Eisenhowers bodyguard Master Sergeant Jesse Holbert who had saved Ike's life when two Nazi spies dressed as Arabs had approached the general and were seized by Holbert. some good content: ...[I recall] how effectively you took charge of arrangements for my crossing the Bizerte Channel in 1943 [when the spies were captured]... Samuel Goldwyn has abandoned the idea of producing a picture on my life. In any event I would have nothing to do with the production... congratulations on being awarded the Legion of Merit... it appears that you are leading a very active life and I am glad to know you are happy in your assignment... Pank you] for the page from 'Stars and Stripes'. good of you to remember my birthday, though I must admit I had best stop counting them... Summersby's letter also refers to Eisenhower's crossing of the Bizerte Channel, and Summersby thanks Holbert for writing. A fine collection.
