(1890 - 1969) 34th President of the United States, Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II and largely responsible for the successful invasion on D-Day. Fine association war-date T.L.S. on official C-in-C letterhead, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 1, 1943 to EDWIN C. WILSON, the U.S. representative in Algiers. Ike responds to Wilson being ordered to collaborate closely with the French to develop a post-war government, in part: "...I sincerely appreciate the expression of your desire to cooperate with this Headquarters in the furthering of the war effort. Your record of accomplishment in the service of our country leaves no doubt in my mind upon that score. I assure you we will try to be equally cooperative with you..." File holes at top, else fine. EDWIN C. WILSON (1893-1972) was a career diplomat who served as ambassador to Panama (1941-1943), and representative of the U.S. to the French Committee of National Liberation and Counselor of American Embassy in Paris (1943-1944). As Roosevelt's diplomatic representative in Algiers, Wilson worked with de Gaulle on plans for a provisional government in France.
