DRESS TUNIC OF AIR FORCE GEN. BERNARD P. RANDOLPH
BERNARD P. RANDOLPH (1933–2021) U.S. Air Force General and an African-American who served as the Commander of Air Force Systems Command (COMAFSC) from 1987 to 1990. His first assignment after training was with the 98th Bomb Wing and the 307th Bomb Wing of SAC from 1956 to 1962 instructing KC-97 Stratofreighter and B-47 Stratojet flightcrews. In 1965 he was sent to Los Angeles as Chief, On-orbit Operations, Space Systems Division. He next was assigned as Assistant Deputy Program Director for Launch and Orbital Operations, and was responsible for all payload operations. He then was assigned to Vietnam as an airlift operations officer at Chu Lai and airlift coordinator at Tan Son Nhut Air Base where he was responsible for the operation of about 50 C-7 and C-123 airlift sorties daily. In 1974 he returned to Los Angeles Air Force Station as director, space systems planning, for the Space and Missile Systems Organization. He later became program director for the Air Force Satellite Communications System. He also assumed responsibility for space defense systems at Space Division headquarters in March 1978. In June 1984 he became vice commander of Air Force Systems Command. He assumed his final command as commander, Air Force Systems Command, in July 1987. Offered here is Randolph's tunic as General of the Air Force. It bears four silver bullion stars sewn to each epaulet, as well as similar 'U.S.' insignia sewn to the lapels. a USAF Senior Space Operations badge, USAF Master Navigator Wings, Meritorious Unit Award, and 16 other ribbons, many with additional devices. All buttons original and present, the tunic undamaged.
