Description:

DR. ERNST-ROBERT GRAWITZ
(1899 - 1945) A Reichsphysician SS and Police, Grawitz advised Heinrich Himmler, commander of the Schutzstaffel (SS), on the use of gas chambers and carried out brutal medical experiments on Nazi concentration camp prisoners. Due to his own SS rank, Grawitz was administratively responsible for all medical experiments conducted. Grawitz was also a physician in the Fuhrerbunker. As high-level ranking Nazis fled Berlin, Grawitz committed suicide by detonating two grenades at the dinner table, thus obliterating himself and his family. Very rare A.Ms.S. 2pp. 4to., on his personal letterhead, Berlin, May 22, 1933, an autobiographical statement undoubtedly submitted to the SS to support his claims of loyalty to the "fatherland". In part: "...I was born on 8 June 1899 in Charlottenburg,...Schooling: humanistic gymnasium, war-time Arbitur. 4 June 1917 an offer cadet senior grade in 10th Goslar Rifle Battalion; on 8 November 171 to the active battalion in the field...Captured by the English at Epehy on 18 September 1918 after a 12-hour defense behind the English line. 5 November 191 back from England...Immediate study of medicine...established in Berlin in internal medicine since 1 October 1929...liaison to Ludendorff, Hitler supporter since 1920!...always publicizing for the NSDAP! SS doctor since 20 January 1932...". Crude tape repair at top right corner, hole at middle and file holes at left, light chipping to edges, still very good.
