DOUGLASS MACARTHUR AND PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE A fine set of 30 candid 4" x 5" b/w photographs documenting ceremonies in Manila following the formal recognition of Philippine independence from the United States on July 4, 1946. The set includes many candid images of Douglas MacArthur who was speaking to a large outdoor audience flanked by dignitaries and servicemen. Other images from the ceremony show incoming Philippine President Manuel Roxas, Chester Nimitz, Lt. Gen. Eichenberger and the outgoing U.S. High Commissioner to the Philippines, Paul V. McNutt. Other images depict a military review of the Philippino troops as well as ceremonies at a large American military cemetery in the Philippines. 30 pieces, very good. $200 - 300
