Douglas MacArthur 1880-1964 American general and Allied Supreme Commander in the Pacific in World War II, accepted the surrender of Japan and was later dismissed by Truman for advocating an invasion of China. T.L. S. 1p. 4to., New York, Feb. 1, 1962, to Ambassador Stanley K. Hornbeck. In part: "...Thank you so much for sending me a copy of your study "China and United States China Policy". It was thoughtful of you to make it available and I shall read it with the keenest interest...." Of course, MacArthur's involvement in Chinese foreign policy led Truman to oust him as Commander in Korea.
