Large grouping of documents related to the military service and captivity of German prisoner of war Kurt Ruckert, includes: his Third Reich "Kennkarte" ("identity card"), issued August 21, 1943 at Budelsdorf and containing his fingerprints, identification photo and birth-date, indicating that he was sixteen when he received the document. it further indicates that he performed customs duties. WITH: partly-printed D.S., 2pp. 4to., Gottingen, Aug. 30, 1949, a postwar discharge certificate by an officer of the British Army's Seaforth Highlanders, indicating that Ruckert was held as a prisoner of war at several locations from the end of the war until his discharge, including a refugee camp at Freidland and a military hospital at Gottingen. It further indicates that he was hospitalized sue to injuries to his lower jaw. WITH: postwar partly-printed D.S., 1p. 4to., Kiel, Sep. 27, 1956, a "Notification of the Determination of Compensation under the POW's Compensation Law", awarding Ruckert 1200 marks for his period of captivity from May 8, 1945 to August 31, 1949. The group also includes a number of additional documents, including his middle school diploma; his Hitler Youth "Leistungsbuch" ("performance book") and identity card; two "Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gemeinschaft" ("German Life-Saving Organization") certification books; a sports record book containing both Third Reich-era and postwar documents, especially his swimming certifications; his "Ahnenpass" book, recording his marriage to his wife in 1951; and a second "Ahnenpass" book recording pertinent details of his parents and grandparents. Eleven pieces overall. Should be seen, and worthy of further research.
