1035. GEORGE DEWEY (1837-1917) American naval officer who served under Farragut in the Civil War, later destroyed a Spanish squadron in Manila Bay during the Spanish-American war. Lot of three D.S.'s, 3pp. 4to., July 9-Dec. 25, 1898, the last from aboard the USS OLYMPIA in Cavite, Philippines, all concerning Asst. Engineer Gilbert Bloss, the first a signed endorsement sending him to the USS BOSTON in the Philippines, the second an endorsement on the verso of a T.L.S. of Navy Secretary JOHN D. LONG detaching him from Mare Island, the third a T.L.S. by Dewey sending Bloss home. Sold with a related T.L.S. by Long and one other letter. Some offsetting, else quite good. Five pieces. $150-200
